Thomas Vanderschaeve

Front-end Developer

Advisory, analytical, engaged and detail-oriented. I turn complex front-end challenges into reliable, user-friendly applications.

Projects

Newest first — expand a project to see my tasks and experience.

  1. FLIR installs roadside cameras. I work on a dashboard where each camera is configured and the events it captures are visualised. Traffic-control operators use it to quickly locate incidents such as ghost drivers or accidents.

    My tasks & experience

    • Built an interactive map where operators place cameras and zones, with live animations and colour feedback when events occur.
    • Delivered a renewed dashboard with adjustable charts and widgets.
    • Added keyboard shortcuts so operators can work faster.
    • Implemented intuitive drag-and-drop and tree structures for lists.
    • Took over full UI/UX responsibility after the senior front-end developer left.
    • Keep the project on the latest Angular version, using Nx, standalone components, strict linting and unit tests.
    • Work with AI agents to generate UI mockups, rapidly implement them and build custom agents and skills.
  2. A small side project started with friends to explore AI possibilities while organising something fun together.

    My tasks & experience

    • Experimenting with AI-driven features.
    • Building a lightweight web experience for a friend group.
  3. New version of the Westtoer platform that manages all tourism products in West Flanders: hotels, museums, events, restaurants, memorial sites and more. The platform sends an annual survey to tourism entrepreneurs to map regional capacity and supply.

    My tasks & experience

    • Responsible for the frontend and coached two junior developers.
    • Built the application from scratch and gave bi-weekly demos to the client.
    • Collaborated closely with the backend partner Sirus NV.
  4. AI platform that centralises and analyses customer feedback. Started as part of the Expedition DO entrepreneurship competition at UGent.

    My tasks & experience

    • Co-founded the startup and took ownership of the technical side.
    • Built an AI product that centralises and analyses customer feedback.
    • Left the company as larger AI models appeared and other interests emerged.
  5. Website for the Flemish energy supplier Energie.be.

    My tasks & experience

    • Extended the existing website with features such as detailed tariff estimation, onboarding-flow changes and a sales dashboard.
    • Gained deep experience with RxJS, NgRx and Angular Universal.
  6. Complete redesign of the website, with part of the site migrated and new components built in Liferay.

    My tasks & experience

    • Developed a large set of new HTML/CSS components before the front-end build started.
    • Presented components via Storybook with configurable parameters for button types, cards, colours and sizes.
    • Gave existing JSF portlets a new look with CSS changes.
    • Supported integration of the new components into Liferay.
  7. Tool to manage office visits and conferences, granting access to visitors via badges and QR codes.

    My tasks & experience

    • Integrated a scanner flow so Eurocontrol guards could check visitor QR codes.
    • Made small form adjustments in the website.
  8. Renewed website for Flow Pilots.

    My tasks & experience

    • Built the new WordPress website.
    • Created templates for pages and blog posts so marketing could easily extend the site.
    • Tracked user data while respecting GDPR via Google Tag Manager and Consent Manager.
  9. Platform to send surveys and analyse them through an internal AI tool. The new version included better visual overviews of results and complex identity and access management for larger companies. Angular frontend with .NET backend.

    My tasks & experience

    • Joined when the company was a start-up and experienced the transition to a scale-up.
    • Worked in different teams as the development team grew from one large team to multiple scrum teams.
    • Helped create new platform modules and contributed to the new internal AI that analyses survey texts.
    • After 1.5 years moved to the Data Insights team, where I designed better visualisations of survey results with the designer and product owner.
    • Built custom charts with Angular and Highcharts, and worked with a cumul.io integration for a client.
  10. Afspraken.be is an appointment system for doctors and paramedics; Medici.be is the management platform for doctors, while afspraken.be gives patients an overview of their care providers.

    My tasks & experience

    • Worked as a web designer on the online appointment system during my studies.
    • Created about 10 template websites that doctors could choose from and customise.
    • Built more than 30 small websites in total.
    • Later helped develop a new version of afspraken.be in AngularJS.
